PT Timah Fosters Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank to Create a Clean Environment

BANGKA BARAT -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting community-based environmental management. One tangible form of the company’s concern is serving as the main supporter of the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank located in Tanjung Village, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency.

The Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank was established under the Decree of the Tanjung Village Head with guidance from the Environmental Agency and has received full support from PT Timah.

The company’s involvement since the establishment of this waste bank has proven to be very helpful in strengthening operations and ensuring the sustainability of waste management programs within the community.

Vice President of the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank, Bambang Setiabudi, stated that PT Timah’s support has been significant, ranging from providing facilities and infrastructure, initial capital, to rehabilitating the office.

“PT Timah helped us by providing scales, cleaning equipment, and initial capital to buy waste from residents. Even the Waste Bank office, which used to be the old village head’s office, was renovated by PT Timah so that it can now be used properly,” explained Bambang.

He further mentioned that PT Timah continues to support them by encouraging Timah employees to actively deposit their waste at the waste bank.

“The awareness of Timah employees in managing waste is very high. Currently, there are 138 Waste Bank customers, 70 of whom regularly deposit waste every Saturday. The participation of Timah employees not only helps our operations but also serves as a real example for the surrounding community,” he added.

Through the Waste Bank, residents are encouraged to sort and deposit household waste so it can be managed more effectively. This program is expected to provide real benefits, not only in maintaining environmental cleanliness but also in improving public health.

“We are very grateful for PT Timah’s support. We hope that more residents will participate in the future so that the benefits of this waste bank can further contribute to environmental cleanliness and public health,” concluded Bambang.
