PT TIMAH Enhances Financial Literacy, Holds Gold Investment Socialization with Bank Syariah Indonesia

PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen collaboration with various stakeholders to improve financial literacy and understanding among employees. One of the initiatives is a partnership with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) through a gold investment socialization program titled Ngopi Emas (Ngobrol Pintar Investasi Emas), held at Graha Timah on Tuesday (May 9, 2026).

The event featured Team Leader of Gold Investment Strategy Implementation at BSI, Fajar Prasetya, as the keynote speaker, who provided education on safe, sound, and sustainable gold investment strategies.

Also present at the event were BSI Palembang Area Manager Khoerul Wajid, BSI Pangkalpinang Branch Manager Firmansyah, PT TIMAH Division Head of General Affairs Wijaya, along with PT TIMAH employees.

PT TIMAH Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that this activity is part of the company’s commitment to enhancing employee competence and financial literacy, particularly in managing long-term investments.

According to him, gold investment is not merely about following trends, but requires proper understanding and strategic management to deliver optimal financial benefits in the future.

“Gold has long been known as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. However, investment must also be accompanied by proper understanding and management to achieve financial goals,” he said.

In his presentation, Fajar Prasetya emphasized the importance of early financial planning through investment as a way to prepare for the future, including retirement needs.

He noted that many people are still unprepared for retirement, highlighting the need for greater awareness to start saving and investing consistently.

According to Fajar, investment offers the potential for higher returns compared to conventional savings, although it also carries more complex risks. In addition to gold, other forms of investment include deposits, property, securities, insurance, and business ventures.

He explained that gold is one of the most attractive investment instruments because it is highly liquid, meaning it can be easily converted into cash at any time. Moreover, gold carries minimal risk of default or bankruptcy, making it suitable for long-term needs such as education, retirement funds, and preparation for Hajj.

Fajar also reminded participants of the importance of understanding their investment risk profile—whether aggressive, moderate, or conservative—to avoid being tempted by unrealistic high-return investment offers.

“Investment is not just about seeking high returns, but about being consistent and disciplined in managing finances,” he said.

In addition to discussing gold investment, the session also educated participants on the importance of managing cash flow by allocating income proportionally for zakat, obligations, investments, daily needs, and recreation.

According to Fajar, gold is also known as a safe haven asset that can preserve value over the long term and be passed down across generations.

Through this activity, PT TIMAH hopes that employees will better understand the importance of early investment and develop healthy financial habits to support more comprehensive future planning. (*)
