BANGKA BARAT – PT Timah has again extended aid to flood victims in Bangka Barat by distributing relief packages. This is part of the company’s swift response to assist affected residents.
Following the aid distribution to residents of Belo Laut Village, PT Timah delivered dozens of relief packages to residents of Tanjung Subdistrict, who were victims of tidal flooding on Wednesday (22/1/2025).
The residents of Tanjung Subdistrict, located along the coast, were directly affected by the disaster. Rising seawater accompanied by heavy rainfall caused water to inundate homes.
The disaster disrupted residents' daily activities, and some reported health issues due to the tidal flooding.
One of the aid recipients, Mariyah (51), a resident of Tanjung Pakdan Teluk Rubiah, appeared delighted when receiving assistance from PT Timah.
"The high waves, almost waist-deep, caused seawater to flood our house, making it impossible for us to work. I’ve also been feeling feverish and dizzy," she recounted.
She expressed her happiness at receiving food packages from PT Timah, which helped her family meet their food needs.
"I’m so grateful to PT Timah for helping us, especially since we couldn’t work these past few days, being busy managing our flooded home. Thank you, PT Timah, for your assistance," said Mariyah.
Similarly, Salawati (45) expressed gratitude for the food aid from PT Timah. She explained that her home was not only flooded with water but also filled with sand from the sea.
"When it happened, sea sand also entered our house, almost knee-deep for an adult. After the flooding, we were busy cleaning up the house. Alhamdulillah, PT Timah’s aid lightened our burden. Thank you, PT Timah," she said.
Tanjung, the subdistrict head, said he appreciated PT Timah’s concern for his residents who were affected by the tidal flood.
According to him, residents living near the coast are always affected by tidal flooding, especially during heavy rains and high tides.
"Hopefully, PT Timah’s food packages can ease the burden on our residents. Whenever there’s a disaster, PT Timah is always quick to respond and care for the community. Beyond that, PT Timah often helps sick residents and provides other social assistance. We thank PT Timah," concluded Said.(*)
