PANGKALPINANG — The Scholarship Class Program initiated by PT TIMAH at SMAN 1 Pemali continues to this day. This reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability in supporting education within mining communities.
Since it was first launched by PT TIMAH in 2000 through 2026, this boarding school education program located in Pemali, Bangka Regency, has produced 958 alumni who are now pursuing careers across various professional fields.
The PT TIMAH Scholarship Class Program implemented at SMAN 1 Pemali, Bangka Regency, represents one of the company’s concrete efforts to support access to quality education for high-achieving students from low-income families within the company’s operational areas.
Through this program, students not only receive free educational facilities, but also benefit from character building, discipline, leadership training, and soft skill development through the boarding school system.
Having run for more than two decades, the program forms part of the company’s commitment to producing outstanding and competitive young generations in support of Indonesia Emas 2045.
Chairman of the SMA Satu Outstanding Alumni Association and alumnus of the PT TIMAH Pemali Boarding School Program, Idu Papinda Jaya, shared that he graduated from the program in 2006 and was immediately accepted into the Aeronautical Engineering program at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).
“It was not only a scholarship during high school. When I was accepted into ITB, I still received support from PT TIMAH for my tuition fees. During my time in the PT TIMAH scholarship boarding school program, it was not only about academics and studies. The boarding school also played an important role in character building, such as discipline, independence, and learning to interact and socialize with peers from different regions,” he said recently.
According to him, the Pemali Boarding School Program encourages students to pursue their dreams and achieve excellence, as students from the first batch until now have achieved accomplishments at both national and international levels.
“The fact that this program has continued to exist for 25 years shows that PT TIMAH is highly committed and consistent in producing outstanding human resources through various educational programs. This is a clear example of PT TIMAH’s role in improving the quality of human resources. The alumni association is also ready to collaborate with PT TIMAH in supporting educational programs aimed at improving and developing human resources quality,” he added.
Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT TIMAH, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the scholarship class program is a tangible step by the company in supporting regional human resource development.
According to him, education is one of the key factors in improving community welfare while also opening future opportunities for young generations within the company’s operational areas.
“This scholarship class program is a concrete manifestation of the company’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources. We hope that the alumni will become outstanding, independent generations capable of contributing to both the region and the nation toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” he said.
In addition to providing educational and dormitory support, PT TIMAH also routinely conducts a transparent annual selection process for outstanding students from the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Riau Islands Province, and Riau Province.
For the 2026/2027 Academic Year, the program once again received strong enthusiasm from the public, with hundreds of students registering to participate in the selection process for the PT TIMAH Scholarship Class Program. (*)
