PT Timah Commends East Belitung District Attorney's Office for Holding Coordination Meeting on Improving Tin Mining Partnership Governance

EAST BELITUNG – Efforts to improve tin governance continue to be intensified to ensure that Indonesia's tin resources provide maximum benefits for the state and society. This governance reform is also supported by the East Belitung District Attorney's Office.

The East Belitung District Attorney's Office held a coordination meeting with Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) and PT Timah to discuss the follow-up plan on governance improvements for tin mining partnership services in East Belitung Regency.

The meeting was attended by East Belitung District Attorney (Kajari) Dr. Rita Susanti, Chairman of East Belitung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Fezzi Uktolseja, Head of Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office (DPMPTSP) Harli Agusta, Head of the Environmental Office Novis Ezuar, Pabung Kodim Belitung 0414 Major Czi Ahmad Tabrani, Kasat Reskrim AKP Ryo Guntur Triatmoko, and PT Timah’s Belitung Area Division Head Ronanta Tarigan. The meeting took place at the East Belitung District Attorney's Office Hall on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Previously, a similar coordination meeting on the Tin Mining Partnership Governance Plan had been held at the provincial level in the Bangka Belitung Islands earlier this year.

Dr. Rita Susanti explained that the coordination meeting is a follow-up to discussions with the Attorney General's Office regarding tin mining governance in Bangka Belitung Province.

"One of the key points we concluded from this meeting is the need for tin exploration to determine the exact tin reserves in East Belitung, ensuring they bring benefits and prosperity to the local community," she said.

She further explained that discussions also covered Tin mining management, Regulations on partnerships, and Collaboration between PT Timah and local community groups in the company’s Mining Business License (IUP) area.

"We are focused on ensuring that tin resources provide tangible benefits for the people of East Belitung. Therefore, a structured partnership model will be developed, involving cooperatives, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD). Additionally, we are committed to eradicating illegal mining, as its prevalence disrupts the intended benefits," she added.

She emphasized the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure tin mining is managed responsibly, benefiting both the state and local communities.

"There must be clear regulations binding PT Timah and local community groups within its IUP area to guarantee fair mining management and ensure that the local population reaps real benefits," Rita stated.

Kajari Rita Susanti highlighted that improving governance is a strategic step to enhance public welfare, requiring coordination and collaboration from all parties.

"We have taken a proactive approach by engaging Forkopimda. This is part of our initiative to ensure the East Belitung District Attorney’s Office plays a key role in addressing tin-related issues in the region. Any partnership model must adhere to applicable regulations to maintain legality," she explained.

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, expressed appreciation for the East Belitung District Attorney’s Office in supporting tin governance improvements, ensuring optimal benefits for the state and society.

"PT Timah is continuously striving to enhance tin governance, and this effort requires the support of all stakeholders. The company highly appreciates the East Belitung District Attorney’s Office for taking proactive steps and supporting governance improvements in East Belitung, ensuring a smooth and structured process," said Anggi.

With stronger governance and collaborative efforts, tin mining can become more sustainable, benefitting local communities, the environment, and national interests. (*)
