The East Belitung District Attorney's Office held a coordination meeting with Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) and PT Timah to discuss the follow-up plan on governance improvements for tin mining partnership services in East Belitung Regency.
The meeting was attended by East Belitung District Attorney (Kajari) Dr. Rita Susanti, Chairman of East Belitung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Fezzi Uktolseja, Head of Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office (DPMPTSP) Harli Agusta, Head of the Environmental Office Novis Ezuar, Pabung Kodim Belitung 0414 Major Czi Ahmad Tabrani, Kasat Reskrim AKP Ryo Guntur Triatmoko, and PT Timah’s Belitung Area Division Head Ronanta Tarigan. The meeting took place at the East Belitung District Attorney's Office Hall on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Previously, a similar coordination meeting on the Tin Mining Partnership Governance Plan had been held at the provincial level in the Bangka Belitung Islands earlier this year.
She further explained that discussions also covered Tin mining management, Regulations on partnerships, and Collaboration between PT Timah and local community groups in the company’s Mining Business License (IUP) area.
"We are focused on ensuring that tin resources provide tangible benefits for the people of East Belitung. Therefore, a structured partnership model will be developed, involving cooperatives, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD). Additionally, we are committed to eradicating illegal mining, as its prevalence disrupts the intended benefits," she added.
She emphasized the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure tin mining is managed responsibly, benefiting both the state and local communities.
"There must be clear regulations binding PT Timah and local community groups within its IUP area to guarantee fair mining management and ensure that the local population reaps real benefits," Rita stated.
With stronger governance and collaborative efforts, tin mining can become more sustainable, benefitting local communities, the environment, and national interests. (*)
