PT Timah Collaborates with East Belitung Health Office to Hold Nutrition Counseling and Health Checks for Schoolchildren

EAST BELITUNG – PT Timah Tbk, in collaboration with the East Belitung Regency Health Office, conducted free health checks and nutrition counseling at SDN 21 Gantung, East Belitung Regency, on Friday (6/12/2024).

The health services were provided using PT Timah's Mobile Health Unit in coordination with Gantung Community Health Center medical personnel.

Previously, as a MIND ID Mining Holding member, PT Timah also partnered with the Bangka Belitung Indonesian Breastfeeding Association (AIMI Babel) to deliver nutrition counseling and health checks in Cupat Village, West Bangka Regency.

This nutrition counseling is part of the pilot program Free Nutritious Meals for elementary school students, emphasizing balanced nutrition for children. It was followed by child health checks focusing on Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments.

Drg. Ayu Nilamsari, Head of the Gantung Community Health Center, highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition education for children's growth.

She outlined three key points for preparing balanced nutrition menus for children is Providing nutritionally balanced meals, Educating children about balanced diets, and Encouraging consistent habits of eating balanced meals.

"Many children today dislike vegetables, so it’s essential to familiarize them with eating balanced meals. Their plates should contain sufficient portions of animal and plant-based protein, carbohydrates, and fruits," she explained.

This effort requires support from nutrition cadres at health centers and schools, as well as parents’ active involvement in ensuring balanced nutrition for their children.

"Meeting balanced nutritional needs is crucial for children’s growth, academic performance, immune system, and brain function," she added.

Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s Asta Cita program through various initiatives.

"This balanced nutrition education program aligns with the vision of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to enhance public health quality and meet children's nutritional needs. PT Timah is proud to play a role in supporting this program by collaborating with the local government of East Belitung," said Anggi.

She expressed hope that the program would improve students’ nutritional quality, contributing to the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. (*)
