PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk is collaborating with the Narcotics Investigation Directorate of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police (Babel Regional Police) to strengthen education and drug abuse prevention efforts in the mining workplace. The initiative also aims to foster a healthy and safe work environment that supports worker safety and productivity.
The collaboration was carried out through an educational session and discussions on rehabilitation programs for mine workers in PT TIMAH’s operational areas, particularly in Sampur and surrounding areas. The event, attended by PT TIMAH’s business partners, was held in PT TIMAH’s Main Meeting Room on Thursday (September 10, 2026).
The initiative represents a joint effort by PT TIMAH and the Babel Regional Police to increase awareness among workers and business partners of the dangers of drug abuse, particularly its impact on occupational safety in the mining sector, where operations involve significant risks.
Director of Narcotics Investigation at the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Dr. Ronald F.C. Sipayung, emphasized the important role of company leaders, business partners, and community leaders in preventing drug abuse among mine workers.
He encouraged workers not to be afraid of undergoing screenings, including urine tests, as part of efforts to assess their condition and determine the appropriate course of action.
According to Ronald, rehabilitation is an important approach for workers who use drugs or are victims of drug abuse. Such treatment is expected to help workers recover while preventing them from returning to drug abuse.
“Do not be afraid to get tested. We want to understand the actual situation so that we can determine the appropriate course of action. If someone is a drug user or a victim of drug abuse, we encourage them to undergo rehabilitation,” Ronald said.
He also explained that law enforcement measures would continue to be taken against individuals proven to be involved in illicit drug trafficking, including dealers and members of drug distribution networks.
The collaboration between PT TIMAH and the Babel Regional Police is expected to go beyond addressing existing cases and help strengthen a culture of prevention across the mining workplace. Ongoing education is expected to increase workers’ awareness of the impact of drug abuse on their health and safety, as well as on their coworkers, families, and communities. (*)
