PT Timah Celebrates 48th Anniversary With 48,000 Trees in Bangka Belitung and Riau Islands Province

PANGKALPINANG -- Welcoming its 48th anniversary, PT Timah stated its commitment to planting 48,000 productive trees in the Company's operational areas.

This program to plant 48,000 thousand trees is part of PT Timah's initiative to support environmental preservation and contribute to greening in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and Riau Islands Province.

PT Timah's planting of 48,000 productive trees in the context of PT Timah's 48th anniversary is in line with the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government's Spirit of Planting the People of Bangka Belitung (Semarak Babel) program which was just launched on Tuesday 23 July.

Tens of thousands of trees have been planted in stages since January 2024 and the 48,000th tree will be planted on August 2. PT Timah collaborates with various levels of society, Regional Government and communities.

Until July 25 2024, 37,610 trees have been planted, and to coincide with World Mangrove Day on July 26, PT Timah will also plant thousands of mangrove trees. Meanwhile, the rest will be planted on August 2 2024 to complete the 48,000 trees.

The trees planted include eucalyptus, mangrove, cashew nut, soursop, sea pine, fruits such as matoa, mango rambutan, avocado and durian.

Apart from planting 48,000 trees, PT Timah will also distribute 4,800 seedlings to the community, plant 480 fruit trees in operational areas and plant 48 local trees.

PT Timah's Head of Corporate Communications, Anggi Siahaan, said that planting 48,000 trees was one of the company's commitments to preserving the environment while reducing the environmental impact of mining activities.

He said that the company carries out various environmental management programs, such as reclamation and others. However, this reforestation is also part of the Company's commitment to address critical land in Bangka Belitung.

The trees planted are productive trees, so it is hoped that they will not only restore environmental conditions but can also have an economic impact on the surrounding community.

"We hope that this small step can have a big impact on environmental sustainability and the welfare of the surrounding community," said Anggi.

In carrying out this tree planting, PT Timah collaborated with the community, youth and also Timah employees were directly involved.

"The peak of planting the 48,000th tree will be held on August 2, which coincides with PT Timah's 48th anniversary," said Anggi. (*)
