PT Timah Builds Decent Housing for Bangka Resident, Suparjan No Longer Fears His House Will Collapse

BANGKA -- Suparjan couldn't stop expressing his gratitude for the livable home built by PT Timah for his family. He never imagined that he would be given a new, more suitable house.

A resident of Dusun Sumbawa, Pemali Village, Bangka Regency, Suparjan said the decent housing assistance from PT Timah has given new hope for him and his family, as they no longer have to live in a house that was on the verge of collapse.

For Suparjan, whose rubber farming income only covers daily necessities, fixing up his deteriorating home was never financially possible.

“Alhamdulillah, I never thought I’d have a proper home that doesn’t leak, where I don’t have to worry when it rains or fear it collapsing. I just couldn’t afford renovations, as my income only covers daily living expenses,” he said recently.

He recalled a time when he had to carry his late wife, who was ill, to protect her from parts of the house that were falling during heavy rain, as the wood had severely rotted.

“The house was already in bad shape. What scared me most was when it rained and the wind blew hard. There was a time when some wood nearly fell on us—my wife was sick and unable to walk, so I had to carry her. Not long after that, she passed away,” he shared.

Now, Suparjan and his two children no longer need to worry. They have a decent place to call home. He hopes PT Timah continues to thrive so it can keep supporting people in need.

Meanwhile, the Head of Dusun Sumbawa in Pemali Village, Yanto Slamet, said Suparjan’s house was indeed in very poor condition and nearly collapsing.

He said that while the proposal to renovate Suparjan’s house had been submitted to the local government, it couldn't be fulfilled due to budget constraints. Thankfully, PT Timah stepped in and quickly built a livable house.

“The condition of his home was no longer suitable to live in and was about to collapse. This aid is very well-targeted because it’s exactly what Mr. Suparjan and his family needed. We’re grateful PT Timah stepped in and made it happen so quickly,” Yanto said.

He added that PT Timah’s housing assistance not only benefited Suparjan, but also positively impacted the surrounding community by involving local residents in the construction process, thereby boosting the local economy.

“We hope PT Timah continues to grow and remains committed to helping the community—not just through decent housing, but also by supporting other social initiatives,” he said.

PT Timah’s decent housing assistance program is one of the company’s efforts to improve the quality of life for local communities.
