PT TIMAH, Bangka Regency Government, and Residents Collaborate to Transform Kolong AKHLAK into a Productive Area

BANGKA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues its efforts to revitalize post-mining areas. In commemoration of Earth Day 2026, PT TIMAH, together with the Bangka Regency Government and community groups, carried out an environmental preservation activity at the Kolong AKHLAK area in Air Kantung, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, on Friday (May 8, 2026).

The activity, themed “Green Synergy: Earth Day 2026 Commemoration and Implementation of PT TIMAH’s PROPER Program,” is part of the ongoing revitalization of Kolong AKHLAK, which was previously an industrial area owned by PT TIMAH in Air Kantung and is now being transformed into a productive, green, and beneficial public space for the community.

During the event, PT TIMAH and the Bangka Regency Government planted 560 tree seedlings, consisting of 400 mangrove seedlings, 80 mango seedlings, and 80 coconut seedlings. The planting initiative serves as an environmental rehabilitation effort while also strengthening the ecosystem in the coastal area of Air Kantung.

The Department Head of Corporate Communication of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk stated that the activity is part of the company’s program to support the implementation of the Green PROPER initiative while accelerating the revitalization of the post-mining Kolong AKHLAK area.

He explained that in addition to tree planting, PT TIMAH has also prepared a master plan for the development of Kolong AKHLAK, which will be implemented gradually throughout 2026.

“Through the revitalization of this area, the Company aims to create a comfortable, green, and beneficial space for the community. In the future, Kolong AKHLAK is expected not only to become a green area, but also to encourage local economic activities,” he said.

Under the master plan, the Kolong AKHLAK area will be equipped with various facilities such as a jogging track, MSME booths, and floating fish cages. The area’s development is also designed to involve various stakeholders, including the regional government and the surrounding community.

Bangka Regent Fery Insani appreciated PT TIMAH’s consistent efforts in transforming former mining land into an area with ecological and social value.

According to him, PT TIMAH has long been part of the lives of the Bangka community. Therefore, environmental revitalization efforts such as those carried out at Kolong AKHLAK demonstrate that mining activities can go hand in hand with environmental preservation and community interests.

“Tin has existed here for a long time, and the people of Bangka have lived side by side with it. Therefore, I say that tin is inherently connected to the lives of the Bangka people. Because of that, let PT TIMAH become a corporation that will be remembered for generations through programs like this,” said Fery.

Similarly, Bangka Vice Regent Syahbudin expressed hope that the collaboration between PT TIMAH, the regional government, and the community would continue in promoting sustainable development in Bangka Regency.

In addition to focusing on environmental rehabilitation, PT TIMAH also distributed assistance to community groups during the event. One of the contributions was vegetable seedlings for the Nangnung Air Kantung Farmer Group.

Chairman of the Nangnung Sejahtera Air Kantung Farmer Group, Edo Merdiano, expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH’s continued support.

According to him, the farmer group has previously received assistance in the form of seedlings, agricultural equipment, and production support facilities such as water tanks, pipes, and mini tractors.

“Assistance from PT TIMAH has greatly helped us develop our agricultural activities. This support has made our group more productive and beneficial for both members and the surrounding community,” he said. (*)
