PT TIMAH and Kodim 0317/TBK Collaborate to Provide a Deep Well for Hundreds of Families in Kundur Village

KARIMUN -- Access to clean water is an essential need for communities, especially during the dry season when water sources begin to dry up. In response to this need, PT TIMAH Tbk collaborated with Kodim 0317/TBK to provide a deep well facility for residents of Kundur Village, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province.

The deep well has now been completed and is available for community use, particularly for residents of Hamlet II in Kundur Village. The facility provides a solution for residents who previously had to travel considerable distances to obtain water for their daily needs.

Kundur Village Head Murhalim said the deep well was greatly needed by the community. Previously, residents had to collect water from a source located nearly two kilometers away on a hill, making access particularly challenging.

“Residents used to collect water from a source that was quite far away and located on a hill. The distance was nearly two kilometers, which made it difficult for residents, especially to meet their needs for bathing, washing, and sanitation,” he said.

According to Murhalim, water availability becomes an even greater concern during the dry season. Several water sources used by residents can dry up when there is no rainfall for an extended period.

“During the rainy season, it is not much of a problem. But during the dry season, if there is no rain for around two weeks, the water sources can dry up. That is why this deep well is greatly needed by the community,” he said.

The deep well is now being used by hundreds of families in Hamlet II. Its availability means residents no longer have to travel long distances to obtain water for their household needs.

Murhalim expressed his appreciation to PT TIMAH and Kodim 0317/TBK for providing the facility. According to him, the community has already experienced the benefits of the deep well, which helps meet one of their most essential basic needs.

“Alhamdulillah, the community is already benefiting from this deep well. It is something residents truly need because water is essential, especially during the dry season,” he said.

He hopes that support for the people of Kundur Village will continue. In addition to the deep well, the community has also benefited from various forms of social support from PT TIMAH, including assistance for fishermen, houses of worship, and coastal erosion protection.

“We hope PT TIMAH will continue to grow and improve its production so that it can continue supporting the community. The assistance provided is not limited to the deep well, but also includes support for fishermen, houses of worship, wave barriers, and various other community social programs,” he concluded. (*)
