PT DAK Produces Three Ships for the Transportation of Teluk Wondama Residents, West Papua

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Dok and Perkapalan Air Kantung, known as PT DAK, continue to produce various types of ships to meet consumer needs.

This time, PT DAK launched a water bus and two RORO ships KMP Aitumieri I and KMP. Aitumieri II was ordered by the Transportation Service of Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua Province.

The launching of this ship was marked by the lowering of these two ships into the sea at PT DAK Shipyard in Selindung. The launch was also witnessed by the Main Director of PT DAK Ahmad Dani Virsal, Head of PT BKI Middle Branch of Kalas Palembang Azhar, Head of Land Transportation Service for Teluk Wondama Regency West Papua, Bernadus Setiawan, and representatives of the Bangka Belitung Province Transportation Service.

PT DAK is a subsidiary of PT Timah Tbk which is engaged in the shipbuilding industry. Not only producing mining vessels for PT Timah Tbk, but PT DAK also serves various types of ship orders.

President Director of PT DAK Ahmad Dani Virsal said PT DAK was able to get the project for the three ships from West Papua after participating in an open auction. The ship construction, which lasted seven months, is a ship that will become a means of transportation for people in Teluk Wondama.

Ahmad Dani Virsal said they produced these three types of ships made from aluminum. The bus ship can accommodate 25 passengers. While the RORO ship can accommodate 30 people and 10 two-wheeled vehicles.

"PT DAK won the trust to build these three ships from the Wondama Bay Regency Government. We can finish them on time and will be delivered to Wondama Bay next January. These ships will be a means of public transportation," said Dani.

He is grateful, PT DAK continues to gain the trust of consumers to produce various types of ships. His party is also developing shipyards in addition to Babel as well as in Lombok and the Riau Islands.

"In 2022 we will produce 22 new ships such as pilot boats, sea ambulances, RORO boats, and fiber fishing boats," said Dani.

PT DAK said Dani also continues to improve shipyard facilities, and improve the quality of human resources so they can produce various types of ships according to customer requests.

Meanwhile, the Head of PT BKI Palembang Middle-Class Branch Azhar appreciated PT DAK's commitment to carrying out the ship construction by the allotted time.

In addition, he said PT DAK continues to grow by being able to produce various types of ships.

"PT DAK's achievements are extraordinary, hopefully in the future, it will receive a lot of shipbuilding because currently, PT DAK's ships have colored the shipping industry a lot," he said.

Head of the Land Transportation Service for Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua Province, Bernadus H. Setiawan, built the ship using DAK funds. Where this ship will be used to transport passengers and goods.

"Our area is a bay area, so we need this type of ship to transport crops and people. The existence of ships that serve as community transportation so that residents can feel the government's touch from the transportation sector," he said.

These two ships will serve different routes, namely the Wasior area to Widesi and the other will serve the east route from Wasior to Rot Island.

"PT DAK was selected from an open auction process, PT DAK's offer was the best, the price was reasonable, and the equipment was complete, so PT DAK was chosen to work on this ship," he said.

He said that until the launch process, PT DAK's shipbuilding was by predetermined specifications.

"We are satisfied in terms of design, supervision, and function fulfilling what we want. It only remains to do a stability test in the water. But I'm sure with the shape and specs everything can run smoothly," he said.
