This time, PT Timah has built a livable house for Sumiati (73) and Dailim, residents of Rambak, Jelitik Sub-district, Bangka Regency.
Previously, the elderly couple's house was in a dire condition, with leaking roofs and cracked floors, posing significant risks for their safety and well-being.
Sumiati could not stop expressing her gratitude as her house was renovated into a safe and comfortable place to live in her old age, thanks to PT Timah's concern and support.
“Alhamdulillah, we’re so grateful that PT Timah helped rebuild our house into something this beautiful—especially since it's just in time for Eid. Thank you, PT Timah. May your fortunes continue to grow,” she said.
She explained that her husband works as a scavenger and does odd jobs, making it financially impossible for them to repair their home.
“My husband collects recyclables, and we couldn’t afford to renovate the house—we could barely cover our daily meals. But now, Alhamdulillah, our home is safe and comfortable,” she shared.
PT Timah not only builds new houses but also renovates uninhabitable homes to make them livable again. The company collaborates with local governments and village officials to ensure that the aid reaches those who truly need it.
Erfiana, Head of Community Welfare, Family Planning and Women’s Empowerment Division at Jelitik Sub-district, described how dire Sumiati’s living conditions were, prompting them to propose the house for renovation through the local government.
“The house was in very poor condition and unfit to live in. The back part had leaks and holes in the roof, and the floors were cracked—very dangerous, especially for the elderly,” she said.
She expressed her gratitude for PT Timah's swift action in helping renovate the house, especially given the long waiting list for similar government housing aid.
“The sub-district government had applied for assistance, but in Bangka Regency, the waiting list for decent housing has already exceeded a thousand households. Alhamdulillah, PT Timah stepped in quickly to help,” she added.
She hopes PT Timah’s collaboration and support for community welfare will continue, noting the many residents who have benefited from the company’s presence.
“PT Timah has done a lot to support the community, not just with housing but also with social assistance like food packages and support for orphans. We hope this continues,” she concluded. (*)
