Providing Clean Water for Communities, PT Timah Builds Dozens of Bore Wells in Operational Areas

PANGKALPINANG – To improve access to clean water for communities in its operational areas, PT Timah, through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, has supported the provision of clean water facilities for public use.

PT Timah has constructed a number of clean water facilities such as bore wells placed in public facilities. From 2022 to 2024, the company has built 16 bore wells across its operational regions.

These bore wells have been built in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, serving places of worship, schools, and residential areas. The clean water is used not only for sanitation but also for daily consumption.

In delivering clean water access, PT Timah collaborates with various stakeholders including local governments, the military (TNI), and community groups.

One of the bore well beneficiaries is Marzeni, Head of Dusun VII in Belo Laut Village, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency. He shared that the bore well, provided through PT Timah’s collaboration with the TNI, was built at the Village Hall so it could serve both the hall’s needs and the wider community.

“The bore well was built at the Village Hall because it can be used during meetings as well as by residents—especially during the dry season when water becomes scarce,” said Marzeni.

This clean water initiative is part of PT Timah’s support for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.

PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the company recognizes clean water as a fundamental need for communities.

“Providing clean water is part of the company’s contribution to meeting people’s basic needs. It’s also an effort to improve public health,” Anggi said.

As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah remains committed to implementing programs that directly benefit local communities and enhance their welfare. (*)
