Preventing Traffic Accidents, PT Timah Employees Clean Up Piles of Sand at the Timah Complex, West Bangka

BANGKA BARAT – To prevent traffic accidents in the PT Timah complex area in Mentok District, West Bangka Regency, employees from the Processing and Smelting Division took part in a collective cleanup of sand piles that had accumulated on the roads.

The PT Timah complex in West Bangka was designated as a Traffic Orderly Village by the Community Education Subdirectorate of the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police in 2023.

On Friday (September 27, 2024), PT Timah employees from the Processing and Smelting Division organized a cleanup effort, which included the use of fire trucks to spray water in the area leading to the Processing and Smelting Division, as well as public facilities like schools within the PT Timah complex.

Heavy rains had caused sand and soil to accumulate on the roads, disrupting traffic flow and becoming a concern for road users.

The cleanup, which involved the fire trucks spraying down the roads, was warmly welcomed by the local community. Rita, a resident of Senang Hati, Mentok, expressed her appreciation for the efforts.

“Now we don’t have to worry about driving anymore. The sand piles on the road used to make us nervous. I travel this road every day to drop off and pick up my kids from school. Thank you, PT Timah,” she said.

Similarly, Beni, a resident of Sungaibaru, mentioned that vehicles often slipped due to the sand piles, especially during rain.

“There have been incidents where vehicles slipped because of the sand on the road. This cleanup is a big relief for road users and helps smooth the flow of traffic,” he explained.

Kopdi Saragih, Deputy Head of the Processing and Smelting Division, stated that the road cleanup was aimed at preventing accidents for both employees and the general public.

“This activity may seem simple, but the benefits are greatly felt by the community. It helps prevent the risk of slipping for road users, whether they’re employees heading to work or locals taking their children to school. Our complex has a kindergarten, elementary, and middle school,” he said. (*)
