BANGKA TENGAH -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving public health by holding a Capacity Building Training Program for Health Cadres in Sungai Selan Village, Central Bangka Regency, aimed at preventing stunting.
This stunting prevention training is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support stunting reduction, particularly in its operational areas.
The five-day training, held from July 28 to August 1, 2025, involved 30 participants, consisting of 28 health cadres and two midwives from the Sungai Selan Health Center. The training was conducted at the Sungai Selan Multipurpose Hall.
The event was attended by Chairwoman of AIMI Babel, Ira Sukmawati; Deputy Chairwoman of AIMI Babel, Mil La; Head of Community and Social Empowerment Section for Sungai Selan District, Gumala Erlena Dewi, S.IP; and Head of Sungai Selan Health Center, Drg. Tomy Arianda.
In her remarks, Gumala Erlena Dewi emphasized the crucial role of health cadres as the frontline of Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post) services.
"This training is expected to strengthen the cadres' ability to assist pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. The knowledge gained here can be directly applied to help reduce stunting rates in the community," she said.
Meanwhile, Drg. Tomy Arianda expressed his appreciation for PT Timah Tbk’s support in organizing the training. He pointed out that stunting remains a serious issue in the area, partly due to the low rate of early breastfeeding initiation.
"This activity is very important because many mothers still lack sufficient information about balanced nutrition and the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. With the support of trained health cadres, we are optimistic that stunting rates in Sungai Selan can be reduced. We hope these cadres will not only serve as companions but also become motivators for mothers to adopt healthy parenting and dietary practices," explained Drg. Tomy.
Anggi Budiman Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah Tbk, affirmed that the training reflects the company’s tangible commitment to enhancing public health.
"PT Timah focuses not only on economic contributions but also on social impact. Stunting prevention is one of our priorities because it directly affects the future of our nation’s next generation. We hope that the health cadres can become agents of change who help raise awareness and promote balanced nutrition practices in the Sungai Selan community," said Anggi.
Over the five-day program, participants received both theoretical and practical training on parenting, balanced nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and support for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. The training also aimed to enhance the cadres’ communication skills and knowledge to help build a healthier, stunting-free generation.
Through collaboration between the government, healthcare workers, community health cadres, and the private sector, PT Timah Tbk hopes this program can be a concrete step toward creating a healthier environment and supporting the optimal development of children in Sungai Selan.
