PANGKALPINANG – Occupational Safety and Health (K3) is a top priority for PT Timah in its operations. As a company operating in the industrial sector, PT Timah continuously innovates to implement high safety standards to prevent workplace accidents.
PT Timah's Director of Operations and Production, Nur Adi Kuncoro, highlighted several innovations introduced by the company to strengthen its K3 Culture, including utilizing technology and fatality prevention systems.
According to Nur Adi, some of PT Timah’s innovations to prevent fatalities include installing the Integrated Conventional Slope Monitoring (ICSM) system on all mining slopes over 6 meters high or categorized as high-risk.
These innovations are applied not only within PT Timah’s operations but also extend to its mining business partners. For instance, as a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah requires its KIP Mitra PJP partners to install an echosounder as a monitoring tool for work slope walls, helping prevent the risk of ladders getting trapped or buried.
"PT Timah has also implemented a digital safety management system through the Safety Management Systems (SMS) application. We require PJO (Project Job Officers) to submit weekly KTA/TTA reports in their respective supervisory areas via this online application," explained Nur Adi.
Additionally, PT Timah has reestablished the K3 Culture Transformation Team, which oversees all operational aspects. The team is expected to identify and document potential risks within the company’s operations.
Nur Adi reminded PT Timah employees and business partners to commit to implementing K3 Culture in every task they perform.
"Let’s all foster a safe and responsible work culture by implementing K3 Culture in every task and reporting any potential risks," he urged.
In celebration of National K3 Month 2025, PT Timah has organized various activities to continue promoting K3 Culture, including K3 competitions, company-wide K3 inspections, mining safety seminars, and more.
As one of the world’s largest tin mining companies, PT Timah remains committed to creating a safe working environment, minimizing accident risks, and ensuring worker welfare as its top priority. (*)
