KUNDUR BARAT -- PT Timah consistently plants mangroves to manage the environment sustainably. Mangrove planting is carried out in the company's operational areas.
PT Timah continues to promote mangrove planting programs, such as those in the Kundur area. PT Timah planted 2500 types of mangroves around Gemuruh Beach, Gemuruh Village, West Kundur District, on Tuesday 13 August 2024.
Mangroves have many benefits for coastal ecosystems, including preventing abrasion, reducing emissions, and providing an economic impact on local communities.
The mangrove planting program carried out by PT Timah is also in line with the government program to rehabilitate and improve the mangrove ecosystem.
PT Timah also involved the surrounding community in planting mangroves. This is a form of education about the importance of mangroves.
Rasyid (65), one of the residents who took part in the planting activity, said he was happy that PT Timah continues to care about the environment in their area by routinely planting mangroves.
"This activity will have benefits for the fishing community. I feel happy to be involved in this activity so that I can have additional income apart from fishing," he said.
Likewise, the Secretary of Gemuruh Riduan Village appreciated PT Timah for carrying out this planting activity.
"Thank you, PT Timah for the past few years continuing to pay attention to the residents of Gemuruh Village. Hopefully, this activity can reduce the impact of abrasion around Gemuruh Beach which is already quite worrying," he said. (*)
