Prevent Coastal Erosion and Beautify the Batu Kucing Beach Tourism Area, PT Timah and the Residents of Gemuruh Village Plant Casuarina Trees

GEMURUH - PT Timah, together with the community of Gemuruh Village, planted 100 casuarina trees around Batu Kucing Beach in Gemuruh Village, Kundur Barat District, Karimun Regency, on Friday (2/2/2024).

Planting casuarina trees is an effort to prevent erosion in the coastal area and preserve the coastal ecosystem.

The community enthusiastically welcomed the tree-planting activity, as stated by the Head of Gemuruh Village, Ari Supriyadi Nurfaisal, who mentioned that they are very pleased with the tree-planting initiative.

In the future, he said, this area will be developed into an attractive tourist destination, becoming a recreational spot for the community.

"We, from the Gemuruh Village Government, plan to develop Batu Kucing Beach into a tourist destination, so the planting of Casuarina trees here, will certainly make Batu Kucing Beach even more beautiful," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Environmental Department of Kundur Barat District, Eviyanti, appreciated PT Timah's concern for assisting the community in social, economic, and environmental aspects.

She mentioned that casuarina trees function as coastal erosion prevention and protection from wind and high waves. Thus, it is expected that the presence of these casuarina trees can help mitigate erosion around Batu Kucing Beach in the future.

"Moreover, it will beautify the location of Batu Kucing Beach, which will be developed as a new tourist spot in Gemuruh Village. All of this certainly requires our collective support," she said.

According to her, PT Timah consistently implements various programs and activities oriented toward the environment, such as casuarina tree planting, mangrove planting, and erosion prevention programs.

"All of them have shown positive progress and provided tremendous impact and benefits. The community can directly feel the positive effects of the environmental programs carried out by PT Timah," she added. (*)
