The Forum of Communication for Mining Engineering Programs Across Indonesia (FORKOPINDO) organized the event at Graha Timah, Pangkalpinang, on November 26, 2024.
With the theme “Mining Based on Good Mining Practices,” PT Timah showcased its initiatives to integrate environmental sustainability with the optimization of the mining sector.
In his address, Ahmad Dani Virsal emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to support downstream initiatives and enhance the added value of Indonesia’s natural resources.
“Implementing Good Mining Practices is not just a corporate responsibility; it’s a commitment to ensuring environmental sustainability while delivering tangible benefits to surrounding communities,” he said.
He elaborated that PT Timah Tbk adopts an integrated mining approach, covering upstream to downstream operations, including exploration, processing, and downstream production of tin-based products such as tin solder and tin chemicals.
Additionally, PT Timah leverages technological innovation in waste management to reclaim valuable minerals from byproducts such as tailings and slag.
“As part of our sustainability efforts, PT Timah conducts post-mining reclamation programs both on land and at sea. These initiatives involve local communities to conserve endemic flora and fauna, plant mangroves, and develop educational eco-rehabilitation destinations,” he explained.
This event marked a pivotal moment for PT Timah to reaffirm its position as a world-class mining company committed to environmentally responsible practices while advocating for the adoption of sustainable mining standards nationwide.
“We believe that well-managed mining operations can positively impact not only the economy but also the environment and local communities,” concluded Ahmad Dani Virsal. (*)
