SAWANG -- Supporting the preservation of traditional games in the Company's operational areas, PT Timah Tbk participated in the Jong Sampan competition held by Mukalimus Youth, Sawang Village, West Kundur District, Karimum Regency.
The Jong Sampan competition is a traditional game of the Malay community, especially the coastal fishing community, to protect cultural heritage so that it does not become extinct and disappear because of the times.
The Jong Sampan race is also an attraction for local and foreign tourists who want to watch the canoe race.
This competition is also a medium for introducing and preserving traditional games to the next generation so that they can continue to be sustainable. This activity is an annual agenda for the Mukalimus community of Sawang Village.
This year's competition was attended by around 300 participants who were divided into two categories, namely the Large Jong which was attended by around 187 participants and the Small Jong which was attended by approximately 120 participants.
Participants in this competition are not only the people of Kundur Island, but also from Karimun, Moro, Durai to Penyalai, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province.
"We would like to express our gratitude to PT Timah Tbk for the assistance that has been provided so that the activities we carry out can run successfully," said the chief organizer of the activities, Samsul.
One of the residents, Naim, said that the local community was very happy with the Jong competition activities.
"Apart from strengthening ties between people from various regions, it is also entertainment. Hopefully activities like this can continue to be carried out because this is the original cultural heritage of the Malay people," he said.
Meanwhile, West Kundur District Head Yusufian appreciated the support of PT Timah Tbk which supports various community activities including cultural preservation.
"Hopefully the synergy between the community and the company can continue to be improved so that the community gets attention," he said. (*)
