Preserving Coastal Ecosystems: PT Timah Submerges Thousands of Artificial Reefs Over the Last Five Years
PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to marine ecosystem conservation through its marine reclamation efforts. Marine reclamation is a key initiative undertaken by the company to restore the environment after mining activities.
PT Timah’s marine reclamation program encompasses various activities aimed at revitalizing marine ecosystems, ensuring their productivity, and supporting biodiversity.
As part of its efforts, PT Timah has implemented several initiatives, including Fish shelters, Coral transplantation, Artificial reefs, and Squid restocking
These marine reclamation programs are being carried out across the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, while in the Riau Islands Province, PT Timah focuses on Mangrove planting, Abrasion barriers, and Mangrove crab restocking.
From 2020 to 2024, PT Timah successfully deployed 700 fish shelters, 295 coral transplantation units, 7,680 artificial reefs, and 40,435 squid restocking efforts.
As a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, PT Timah collaborates with fishermen groups, academics, and local communities to ensure the success of its marine reclamation programs.
These efforts not only restore coastal ecosystems but also aim to enhance the livelihoods of coastal communities, particularly fishermen, by ensuring sustainable marine resources.
