BANGKA -- Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems, PT Timah Tbk collaborated with the Regional Leadership Council (DPC) of the Indonesian Fishermen’s Association (HNSI) of Bangka Regency to plant 4,000 mangrove trees in the Nelayan II area, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, on Saturday (July 26, 2025).
The mangrove planting, held in commemoration of World Mangrove Day, was a joint initiative aimed at conserving mangrove ecosystems so they can continue to benefit surrounding communities.
Chairman of HNSI Bangka Regency, Lukman, stated that this was the fifth collaboration between PT Timah and HNSI for mangrove planting efforts in the region.
"We’ve partnered with PT Timah to conduct mangrove planting and also organize rowing competitions. This marks the fifth time we’ve worked together on mangrove planting, and this time coincides with World Mangrove Day," said Lukman.
He emphasized the importance of promoting such initiatives, especially amid increasing mining activity, so that environmental conservation aligns with the mining sector.
"The rise in mining activities must be accompanied by sustainable environmental preservation. We can’t wait until resources are depleted to begin conservation efforts. This must be done collectively, and we’ve already started together with PT Timah," he said.
Member of Commission II of the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial House of Representatives, Himmah Olvia, expressed appreciation for PT Timah’s commitment in collaborating with HNSI Bangka to support environmental conservation.
"Thank you to PT Timah, a state-owned mining company that is aware of the importance of environmental management during its operations. Today, through its CSR program, they are helping preserve the environment. We fully support all post-mining environmental activities," she said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, Ismir Rachmaddinianto, stressed the vital role mangroves play in protecting coastal ecosystems.
"This activity is a joint effort to preserve mangrove ecosystems, and PT Timah has taken the initiative to support this cause. We hope to restore damaged mangroves together so that the community can reap the benefits," he concluded.
