BANGKA -- To support youth engagement in environmental preservation and character building, PT Timah has provided support for the success of the nature trekking competition organized by the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Mahacita of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel).
PT Timah’s support for this event is part of the company’s efforts to encourage the development of potential, a spirit of togetherness, and a love for nature among the younger generation.
The nature trekking competition held by Mahacita Polman Babel is an annual event. In 2025, it marks the 16th year of the event, which serves as a platform to strengthen solidarity and fellowship among nature enthusiasts, hone mental toughness, and foster environmental awareness.
Reinaldo Deski, the head organizer of the 16th nature trekking competition, stated that the event will be held on May 25 at the Rebo Beach area and is expected to attract 100 teams from various groups, including students, college students, and the general public.
"This event is not only about trekking but also about environmental and social activities, as there will be tree planting, a beach cleanup, and the trekking competition itself which includes elements such as hiking and more," said the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering student.
He mentioned that dozens of teams have already registered for the competition. He also expressed appreciation for PT Timah’s support for the event.
"Thank you to PT Timah for supporting this event. The assistance will be very helpful in making the event a success. We hope PT Timah will continue to support other student activities as well," he said.
Meanwhile, UKM Mahacita advisor Pristiansyah noted that this is not the first time PT Timah has supported their nature trekking competition. He stated that PT Timah’s support has helped ensure the success of an event attended by hundreds of participants.
According to him, UKM Mahacita is a platform for students interested in nature-related activities. They often organize environmental initiatives.
"UKM Mahacita not only encourages people to enjoy nature but also to contribute to preserving it, promoting tourism in Bangka Belitung, and holding environmental activities. We appreciate every form of support from PT Timah, not only for this event but also for their other contributions," he concluded.
