Preserve Coastal Ecosystems, PT TIMAH Tbk Plants Thousands of Mangroves at Kobel Beach, Kundur

KUNDUR -- PT TIMAH Tbk has once again planted mangroves as part of its efforts to protect coastal environments and mitigate climate change. This time, the company planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings at Kobel Beach, Sawang Laut Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency, on Thursday (December 11, 2025).

This mangrove planting initiative is part of PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to supporting coastal area rehabilitation, preventing erosion, and providing economic benefits to surrounding communities.

The activity was warmly welcomed by local residents and the village government. It also involved various groups, including the police, the prosecutor’s office, and community organizations.

The Head of Sawang Laut Village, Jefrizal, expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s direct involvement in preserving the coastal ecosystem at Kobel Beach.

“Thank you to PT TIMAH Tbk for planting mangroves at Kobel Beach. This is very beneficial for protecting the coastal environment so that the beach and marine ecosystems remain preserved,” he said.

Jefrizal noted that the mangrove condition in the Kobel Beach area had been quite damaged, so replanting is expected to help restore the coastal ecosystem.

“Previously, the mangroves along Kobel Laut Beach were quite damaged. With this planting effort, it will increase the mangrove coverage and later help serve as a barrier against coastal erosion,” he said.

He added that the mangrove planting conducted by PT TIMAH Tbk will not only improve the coastal ecosystem but also help boost the local fishing community’s economy.

“What we plant today, if properly maintained, will bring economic benefits. These mangroves will become habitats for fish and shrimp, which will eventually increase fishermen’s catch,” he said.

Moving forward, he hopes PT TIMAH Tbk will continue collaborating with the community to implement environmental conservation programs.

“We hope this program will continue. We, together with the community, will also take care of the mangroves in this area so the coastal ecosystem at Kobel Beach can grow well,” he concluded. (*
