Preserve Batu Bedaun Coastal Ecosystem in Bangka Belitung, PT Timah Collaborates with Rajik Village Youth Organization to Plant Thousands of Mangroves

SOUTH BANGKA -- In commemoration of World Mangrove Day, PT Timah Tbk, in collaboration with the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) of Rajik Village, planted 5,000 mangrove trees along Batu Bedaun Beach in Rajik Village, Simpang Rimba District, South Bangka Regency, on Tuesday (July 29, 2025).

This mangrove planting initiative is a tangible form of collaboration between PT Timah and the community in preserving the ecological functions of coastal areas.

The activity not only serves as an environmental conservation effort but also demonstrates support for the sustainability of coastal ecosystems, which provide numerous benefits to local communities—from preventing coastal erosion to supporting marine life habitats.

Simpang Rimba Sub-district Head, Nurmansyah, expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s continued commitment to environmental preservation.

“Today, God still grants us oxygen, and one of its sources is mangrove trees. So let us protect the Earth together. We fully support the synergy between PT Timah and the youth organization in this environmental preservation effort,” said Nurmansyah.

He emphasized the vital ecological functions of mangroves and their role in supporting sustainable economic activities, in line with environmentally friendly mining practices.

“Mangroves help prevent erosion, provide habitats for small fish, absorb carbon, reduce pollution, and improve water quality. PT Timah has shown outstanding commitment despite operating in the mining sector,” he added.

Echoing this sentiment, Rajik Village Head, Ruslan, also appreciated PT Timah’s active role in safeguarding the environment around its operational areas.

“Today, PT Timah is not here to take, but to give and care. We hope this synergy continues harmoniously for the sake of environmental sustainability and the well-being of our community,” said Ruslan.

He also expressed hope that PT Timah’s support would extend beyond tree planting to include other community initiatives, such as developing local tourism potential.

“We hope PT Timah can help develop Batu Bedaun Beach as a tourist destination by supporting the construction of a photo spot bridge and a prayer facility, which are currently unavailable,” he added.

Chairman of the Rajik Village Youth Organization, Yogi Ariyansyah, also welcomed the mangrove planting initiative. He emphasized the importance of mangroves, especially in areas that are among the largest tin-producing regions.

“Mangroves help prevent coastal erosion, serve as spawning grounds for fish, and strengthen coastal ecosystems. We appreciate PT Timah’s concern for the environment. This proves that protecting nature is a shared responsibility, not just the company’s,” said Yogi.

He also hoped that PT Timah would continue to support the development of tourism and public facilities in the area to help sustainably advance Rajik Village.

Last week, PT Timah, in collaboration with the Indonesian Fishermen’s Association (HNSI) of Bangka Regency, also carried out mangrove planting in the Nelayan II area, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency.
