PANGKALPINANG -- Encouraging the productivity of people with disabilities, PT Timah Tbk handed over assistance for the manufacture of body lifting equipment to facilitate the mobility of people with disabilities.
This body lifting equipment is an idea that was initiated by Golom Sentot (35), a resident of Pangkalpinang City. Golom is a person with a disability since birth. He has to use a wheelchair in his activities, this is what made Golom think of making a tool that makes it easier for him to move from place to place.
"As the Bangka people say, I suffer from wilting paralysis. But according to medical terms, I had polio and it attacked the motor nerves so that my body has strength. I have been assisted by my father, who lifts me up when I want to go anywhere," said Golom when he met him at his residence some time ago.
Golom said that in order to carry out his activities, he needed the help of others. For example, to get up from bed to a wheelchair or other activities. Usually, he is assisted by his father, but with the condition of his aging parents often find it difficult to help lift him.
Facing this problem, Golom, who did not give up, surfed the internet to find various kinds of equipment that could solve the problems he was experiencing. He found various types of tools for people with disabilities, but none of them were suitable for him.
Finally, armed with his abilities, he designed his own tools that were tailored to his body and needs. Later it will be used to lift his body to move around.
"I took a picture first, looking at the references on youtube. I just modified it according to my needs. I want how this tool can replace the role of humans to lift me up. Because if you keep asking your father to raise you, it's too bad, you're also getting old. Lifting me requires energy too," he said.
The adventurous man explained that the idea to make this equipment came about five months ago. However, he had difficulty realizing his idea because he did not have the money.
He even conveyed his idea to one of his colleagues who could make the tool according to the design he had designed.
"I've asked a friend, he can make this tool. But I said, wait a minute, I don't have the funds yet. After that, I chatted and finally proposed to PT Timah Tbk. Thank God, we can be helped to make this tool," he said.
According to him, this tool uses a working system that can clamp the body and can be pushed using wheels to move from one place to another. So there is no need to use human power anymore.
“There will be a brace for the body, so it can help lift me up. Using wheels too, I was also thinking about how this tool can be folded so that it can be carried anywhere," he said.
He appreciated PT Timah Tbk for helping him to realize his design to make body lifting equipment so that later it would facilitate his mobility.
"I don't think that PT Timah Tbk will also provide assistance, later this assistance will be directly used to buy equipment to make these tools such as iron and others, hopefully this will work so that maybe it's not only me who can use it but also my brothers like me," he said with a smile. (**)
