BANGKA SELATAN – The Pemuda-Pemudi Berkarya (Pepaya Creative) community has grown significantly and become more prominent thanks to the support of PT Timah Tbk.
Founded in 2014 in Dusun Pairem, Rias Village, Toboali District, Bangka Selatan Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, the community is now more confident in accepting various consumer orders.
With PT Timah's support in providing a well-equipped workshop and tools for crafting, the community has become more independent and competitive.
Iwan Sanjaya, the Chairman of Pepaya Creative, shared that they are now more confident in taking on diverse craft orders, as they have the necessary equipment provided by PT Timah.
In addition to the tools, PT Timah also assisted them in building a workshop to handle consumer orders.
“Our workshop is now larger, and with equipment like compressors and professional-grade carpentry tools, we are confident in taking on jobs and even marketing our services to consumers,” he said.
He emphasized the significant impact of PT Timah, a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, on their activities.
“Previously, we had to stop work during rain or extreme heat. But now, we don’t have to anymore. We feel incredibly supported by this workshop and are much more confident,” he explained.
The workshop and tools provided by PT Timah have benefitted both the community members and the wider public, leading to an increase in new members.
“In addition, a few months ago, we used the equipment for a mosque community service project. We are always open to the community if they need to use our tools,” he added.
Today, Iwan and his team are more confident in marketing their services and products.
“For instance, we can now handle woodwork like door frames and metal painting because we have the necessary tools, such as compressors,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of quality in their work, saying, “We have our standards, which set us apart. The price may be similar to others, but we emphasize quality. Quality is crucial because, without it, we’d lose our customers.”
With the skills possessed by their members, Iwan hopes PT Timah Tbk will continue to support and help develop their community.
“Our human resources cover almost everything—metalwork, carpentry, crafting—so we’re well-equipped. We plan to propose additional tools like welding transformers, laptops, and other items,” he said.
Looking ahead, Iwan hopes they can engage in comparative studies or external training sessions to broaden their knowledge and motivate their members to innovate further. (*)
