Outsmarting Fear, Children's Smiles Light Up PT TIMAH's 50th Anniversary Community Service Mass Circumcision in Kundur

KARIMUN -- Smiles, laughter, and a touch of nervousness filled the air during the mass circumcision program held as part of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk's 50th Anniversary Community Service Month at Wisma Kundur Hall in Perayun Village, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province, on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).

Dozens of children arrived with their parents to participate in the free circumcision service, one of the highlights of PT TIMAH's 50th Anniversary Community Service Month.

For the children, the event was more than just a medical procedure. It was a journey of courage—overcoming fear and celebrating the happiness that came after successfully facing the experience.

The mass circumcision program is one of PT TIMAH's annual initiatives to commemorate the company's anniversary. This year, under the theme "Tin for the People," PT TIMAH once again organized the program across its operational areas.

Among the participants was Alwi, a sixth-grade student from SD Negeri 007 Sawang. Dressed in a blue traditional Malay outfit, Alwi looked cheerful, although his face occasionally revealed a hint of nervousness.

"I'm happy to join the circumcision program organized by PT TIMAH. I'm also excited because I get to stay home from school until I've fully recovered. Thank you, PT TIMAH, for making this possible," said Alwi.

He admitted that he became nervous after hearing other children crying inside the procedure room. Nevertheless, he encouraged himself to stay brave because being circumcised was his own decision.

"Of course I was scared, but I kept reminding myself that this is something I wanted to do, not because anyone forced me," he said.

After completing the procedure, Alwi smiled again. He shared that his dream is to become a soldier in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

A similar story came from Deka, a fourth-grade student from Prayun. Before entering the procedure room, he had imagined that the circumcision would be frightening.

However, with encouragement from his parents and the medical team, he became much calmer. Once everything was over, Deka felt relieved and happy.

"At first I was scared, but it wasn't as frightening as I imagined. Now it's all over. I'm happy because I received gifts and some money, which I'll use to buy school supplies and snacks," he said with a smile.

Deka also received a new backpack, which he plans to use for school.

"Thank you, PT TIMAH, for the backpack and all your support. I'll use it for school. Happy 50th Anniversary to PT TIMAH. Wishing the company continued success," he said.

For parents, the event was equally meaningful. Azmi, a resident of Teluk Redang, expressed his gratitude that his son was able to undergo the circumcision free of charge.

He learned about the program through the village administration. According to him, the free service greatly benefits families by eliminating the financial burden of the procedure.

"Alhamdulillah, I'm very happy that my son has completed his circumcision. This program has been a tremendous help for our family because it is provided at no cost. Thank you, PT TIMAH. Wishing PT TIMAH continued growth, good health, and lasting success," he said.

The children's cheerful smiles after the procedure brought warmth and joy to the event. Behind their courage and happiness was the gratitude of parents who were able to access free healthcare services.

The mass circumcision program was not only a healthcare initiative but also a meaningful experience for the children. It taught them to overcome fear, build courage, and develop greater self-confidence.

The activity was part of PT TIMAH's 50th Anniversary Community Service Month, which carries the spirit of creating lasting benefits for the community.

As the company celebrates five decades of its journey, PT TIMAH remains committed to delivering social programs that create meaningful and lasting value for communities across its operational areas. For the company, its 50-year journey is not only about business achievements and performance—it is also about continuing to grow together with the communities it serves. (*)
