Optimizing the Role of PJO in Enhancing OHS Performance, PT Timah Holds PJO Summit and Mining Safety Training

PANGKALPINANG – To improve Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, PT Timah organized the PJO Summit and Mining Safety Training in a hybrid format from Graha Timah Pangkalpinang on Wednesday (12/2/2025).

The PJO Summit and Mining Safety Training marked the culmination of PT Timah’s National OHS Month activities, which were conducted across all company operational areas.

This initiative aims to enhance the competence of Operational Supervisors (PJO) in implementing safe work practices under applicable regulations, thereby optimizing workplace safety performance.

The event was attended by PT Timah’s HR Director, Hendra Kusuma Wardana; the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Coordinator from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Dwinanto Herlambang; the Bangka Belitung Provincial Manpower Office; PT Timah’s GM, Ryan Andri; as well as PJOs and business partners.

The mining safety training featured distinguished speakers, including Budi Haryanto, Senior Vice President of HSS Division, MIND ID, Bangun Sianturi, Junior Mining Inspector, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), and Rhema Putra Abadi, Junior Expert Labor Supervisor, Bangka Belitung Manpower Office

PT Timah’s HR Director, Hendra Kusuma Wardana, emphasized that Operational Supervisors (PJO) play a crucial role as the frontline guardians ensuring that company operations adhere to established safety standards.

"This is a great responsibility, but also an honor. Through hard work and collective commitment, we can create a safe and comfortable working environment for all," he stated.

He expressed appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown by the management team, PJOs, Heads of Mining Engineering, and all employees in implementing mining safety management systems.

"Let’s use this moment as a strategic step to continuously enhance human resource capacity, optimize the safety management system, and ultimately support the company's sustainable productivity growth," he encouraged.

"Safety is a shared responsibility. Every action we take must prioritize OHS principles, as safety is not just about complying with regulation it is about protecting lives, health, and the well-being of our colleagues," he added.

Meanwhile, Dwinanto Herlambang, Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Coordinator at the Ministry of ESDM, commended the PJO Summit and Mining Safety Training initiative.

"National OHS Month serves as a momentum to raise awareness and instill an OHS culture. The government has established mining safety governance standards, which are an integral part of good mining practices," he explained.

He emphasized that this event is not just ceremonial but represents a collective effort to improve safety performance. The government encourages all stakeholders to collaborate and contribute according to their roles in advancing OHS standards.

"Let us continue to uphold dedication to workplace safety, health, and well-being by conducting thorough and consistent inspections, evaluations, and testing with full responsibility," he urged.

One of the participants, Budi Suriansyah, a PJO from CV Jaya Mandiri, acknowledged the immense benefits of the training in performing their duties.

"This training is very useful. We gain insights into the latest regulations, and sessions like this should be held regularly to help us carry out our responsibilities more effectively," he stated. (*)
