O’Bross Collection’s Journey with PT Timah: From Handmade Accessories to Locally-Inspired Hijabs

PANGKALPINANG – What started as a personal need turned into a thriving business for Fanny Pratiwi, founder of O’Bross Collection, a brand specializing in hijab accessories and handmade crafts.

Launched in 2011, the O’Bross Collection initially focused on producing hijab brooches made from recycled fabric. However, as orders kept coming in, Fanny decided to commit to the business fully.

The journey took a drastic turn during the Covid-19 pandemic. To survive, Fanny began producing cloth face masks, which unexpectedly became a turning point for the O’Bross Collection.

“At first, we only made brooches. But during the pandemic, we started making masks. Alhamdulillah, from there, we were able to expand our workforce and invest in sewing machines,” she shared.

Now, the O’Bross Collection offers more than just hijab brooches—its product line includes bracelets, necklaces, and hijabs featuring traditional Bangka Belitung motifs, such as Sahang (pepper), Dambus (a traditional musical instrument), and Daun Simpor (Simpor leaves).

The business grew even more after joining PT Timah’s fostered MSME program. Beyond financial support, Fanny experienced significant benefits in marketing and production.

“Every time there’s a bazaar or exhibition, PT Timah always includes us. We also receive various useful training sessions,” she said.

O’Bross Collection’s success proves that innovation and strong partnerships are key to building a sustainable business.

With unwavering determination and support from various stakeholders, Fanny hopes to continue expanding her business, introducing more high-quality local products, and creating more job opportunities for the community. (*)
