KUNDUR -- To prevent abrasion and to preserve the coastal environment, PT Timah Tbk has consistently planted mangroves in the Kundur Region, Karimun Regency, Riau Archipelago Province.
Apart from planting mangroves, members of the Indonesian mining holding MIND ID also carry out maintenance of mangroves that have been planted with the community.
Maintenance of mangroves is an effort to ensure that the planted mangroves can thrive. In addition, replanting of mangroves that do not grow well will be carried out so that later growth can be evenly distributed.
In 2023, PT Timah Tbk Kundur Production Unit will embroider as many as 4,000 stems of mangrove seedlings of api-api and mangrove types which will be carried out at seven points around the coast of Salak Bay, Batu Kucing, Teluk Dalam, Timun Beach, Mata Air Beach, Padang Beach. Kundur and Gulf Coast.
The planting and embroidering of mangroves which were carried out in the company's operational area were also welcomed by the residents. Yanto, for example, a resident of RT 011 RW 005, Kundur Village, West Kundur District, said he was happy with the mangrove planting activity.
"We are very happy and welcome PT Timah's planting and replanting activities. Because it can reduce the impact of abrasion caused by sea tides. Here in one day sea water occurs twice, has ups and downs. So the impact is certain. even faster," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Kundur Barat Khidir sub-district appreciated the environmental activities carried out by PT Timah Tbk for the community. He said PT Timah had contributed a lot to society.
To encourage the community's economy to move, PT Timah Tbk involves the surrounding community so that it can increase their income. This was disclosed by Mus Mulyadi who was involved in this program.
"We are happy with this program, because we can get additional income aside from going to sea. This activity makes us love our beaches more and more green, it is hoped that with an improved ecosystem, the fish will breed well so that it will have an impact on fishermen's income," he stated.
