Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok Officially Designated as a National Cultural Heritage Site

BANGKA BARAT -- The Museum Timah Indonesia (MTI) Mentok has been officially declared a National Cultural Heritage Site (CBN) during the 6th National-Level Cultural Heritage Designation Review Session of 2025, organized by the Directorate General of Cultural Protection and Traditions of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture.

In the session, the West Bangka Regency Government previously proposed four sites for national cultural heritage designation: the Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok, the Jamik Mosque of Mentok, the Khong Fuk Miau Temple, and the Mentok Mayor’s House.

The Regent of West Bangka, Markus, expressed his pride in the successful national designation of two cultural heritage sites from West Bangka.

“The Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok and the Jamik Mosque have been designated as National Cultural Heritage Sites by the Ministry of Culture. We are proud of this achievement and hope that the designation will increase the attraction for tourists to visit West Bangka,” Markus said on Friday, November 28, 2025.

The Head of the West Bangka Tourism Office, Fakhriansah, added that with the designation of MTI Mentok and the Jamik Mosque as CBN sites, West Bangka now has four National Cultural Heritage Sites.

“With the designation of the Museum Timah and the Jamik Mosque as National Cultural Heritage Sites, West Bangka now has four such sites: the Menumbing Guesthouse, the Benteng Toboali Wers (BTW), the Museum Timah Indonesia Mentok, and the Jamik Mosque,” he explained.

Fakhriansah also invited the community and stakeholders to work together to preserve and maintain the National Cultural Heritage Sites in West Bangka.

“We hope all parties will work hand in hand to safeguard these cultural heritage sites. We also hope that PT TIMAH Tbk can soon complete the rehabilitation of the museum building,” he said. (*)
