BANGKA BARAT – The presence of Farm Estate Tanjung Ular is not only part of PT Timah’s efforts to support food security in its operational areas but also a means of creating job opportunities for the local community.
Located in Mentok, West Bangka Regency, Farm Estate Tanjung Ular is an agribusiness area designed as a modern plantation growing a variety of food crops.
This initiative aligns with PT Timah’s commitment to achieving food security following President Prabowo’s Asta Cita vision.
Covering 3.5 hectares of PT Timah’s land, Farm Estate Tanjung Ular is cultivated with various vegetables such as water spinach, spinach, chilies, corn, peanuts, and galangal. Additionally, fruit crops like mango, oranges, papaya, and coconuts are also grown.
Farm Estate Tanjung Ular has already yielded promising results, with various vegetables, including spinach and corn, successfully harvested from the 3.5-hectare area.
PT Timah actively involves the local community in managing Farm Estate Tanjung Ular, providing employment opportunities. Among those benefiting from this initiative are Alex and Gabut, who now have stable jobs thanks to the project.
Alex and Gabut expressed their gratitude for being part of PT Timah’s efforts in managing Farm Estate Tanjung Ular, allowing them to earn a living.
"I used to work in offshore mining, but due to unpredictable weather and unstable income, I decided to join my friends working here," Alex said.
As residents of Air Putih Village, they shared their experiences with the successful harvests at Farm Estate Tanjung Ular, growing various vegetables that have already been reaped.
"If there are no issues, such as pest attacks, spinach can be harvested in just 20 days, while corn takes up to three months," Alex explained. (*)
