WEST BANGKA — The Mentok Tin Museum (MTI), located in West Bangka Regency, serves not only as a historical tourism destination but also plays an active role in supporting education.
Managed by PT Timah, MTI Mentok has become a pleasant learning environment. Various schools and educational institutions routinely organize educational visits to the museum as part of their out-of-classroom learning activities.
This time, the Mentok Tin Museum welcomed hundreds of students from State Elementary School 22 Mentok, comprising first, second, and third-grade classes, on Monday (June 16, 2025).
The students enthusiastically participated in the school activity, listening attentively as museum staff explained the exhibits in each section. They were also seen taking notes on important information.
Ari Purwanti, a supervising teacher from SDN 22 Mentok, explained that the visit to MTI was part of the "Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project" (P5), a component of the Merdeka Curriculum aimed at helping students gain a firsthand understanding of Mentok’s history.
“This visit to the museum is for our P5 project. Although the subject is taught at school, we brought the children here so they can better understand the history of Mentok and tin mining by seeing it directly at the Tin Museum in West Bangka,” said Purwanti.
The P5 learning project also received strong support from parents, as expressed by Kiki, who accompanied her child to the museum.
“P5 activities outside of school can educate children directly by letting them see historical artifacts, photos, and statues. It helps them absorb the knowledge more quickly,” said Kiki, mother of Ammarzaky.
One of the students, Micha Salwa Nurlatifa, said it was her first visit to a museum and that she was very happy.
“I’m very happy. I got to see and learn about the history of Mentok and tin mining. This is my first time visiting the museum,” she said.
Similarly, Athaya, a third-grade student, said learning at the museum was both interesting and fun.
“Learning here is fun and interesting because we get to see historical objects, photos, and statues. It’s exciting to be here with my school friends,” she said. (*)
