More Than Just a Historical Educational Attraction, Indonesia Tin Museum Mentok Creates a Domino Effect on the Tourism Sector

BANGKA BARAT – Mentok is known as one of the historical regions in West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. This area boasts not only breathtaking natural beauty but also a rich historical and cultural heritage.

One of the city's iconic educational tourism destinations is the Indonesia Tin Museum Mentok, managed by PT Timah Tbk.

More than just a center for information on tin mining history, the Indonesia Tin Museum Mentok enhances visitors’ travel experiences by offering deeper insights into Bangka Belitung's heritage.

The museum has become a major tourist attraction in West Bangka Regency, drawing a significant number of visitors. In 2024 alone, 5,026 people visited the Indonesia Tin Museum Mentok.

Beyond its role as an educational and historical preservation site, the museum plays a crucial role in boosting local tourism and positively impacting other economic sectors, such as culinary businesses, accommodations, and handicrafts.

Sumpeni, a tourism and accommodation entrepreneur, acknowledged the museum's strong influence on local tourism and her business.

"The museum has a significant impact on the tourism industry in West Bangka Regency. Its presence next to my business adds to the appeal of my homestay," she said.

Similarly, Sudirman, owner of Sudirman Homestay, noted how the museum attracts visitors to Mentok.

"My homestay is located right in front of the museum. Guests are drawn to visit Mentok because they have previously explored the museum in Pangkalpinang," he explained.

A museum visitor, Lia from Sukabumi, shared her experience of discovering the historical charm of Mentok upon her arrival.

"I was curious to see what was inside. The old building looked unique and sturdy. When I entered, I realized it was a museum filled with stories about the history of Mentok and tin mining," she said. (*)
