More Effective Teaching Methods, Teachers in Belitung Timur Experience Tangible Benefits from PT TIMAH’s Gernas Tastaka Program

PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk’s commitment to improving the quality of education continues to be demonstrated through the Gernas Tastaka Training program for elementary school teachers in East Belitung Regency.

This program is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen literacy and numeracy as the foundation for developing high-quality human resources toward Indonesia Emas 2045.

PT TIMAH has conducted the Gernas Tastaka program twice, beginning in 2025 and continuing in 2026, with dozens of teachers in East Belitung participating.

One participant, Mutiara Agustina, a teacher at SDN 4 Gantong, said she was proud to take part in the Gernas Tastaka program from the first phase through the second phase.

“We gained many new insights that had never been applied in our school before. The mentors’ delivery was engaging, the materials matched our teaching needs, and we could immediately put them into practice,” she said recently.

According to Mutiara, the methods learned in the training greatly helped simplify subjects that students previously found difficult, such as fractions in mathematics.

“Learning fractions usually seems complicated, but through this approach it can be taught in a simpler and more enjoyable way. I’ve already implemented it in class, and the results are more effective,” she explained.

She added that she also shared the knowledge gained from the Gernas Tastaka program with fellow teachers, ensuring that not only she benefits from the training, but also her colleagues and students.

“I even shared these methods with other teachers, so the knowledge from this training doesn’t stop with me,” she added.

Previously, teachers had participated in the Phase 1 Gernas Tastaka Training at the end of 2024, followed by one semester of implementation mentoring. In the first phase, participants studied three main modules: basic principles of learning mathematics, numbers, and geometry.

Meanwhile, in Phase 2, the materials focused on measurement, statistics, probability, and assessment in mathematics learning. All materials were designed to enhance teachers’ competencies in delivering more effective and contextual teaching.

Through its support of the Gernas Tastaka Program, PT TIMAH reaffirms its role in building a strong education ecosystem within its operational areas. The program not only improves teachers’ capacity but also has a direct impact on the quality of student learning in the classroom.
