This ongoing mangrove planting program aims to support conservation efforts, mitigate coastal erosion, and enhance the well-being of coastal communities.
Mangroves play a vital role in maintaining coastal ecosystem balance, serving as habitats for marine life, carbon sinks, and natural barriers against waves and shoreline erosion.
To ensure effective implementation, PT Timah actively collaborates with local governments, environmental groups, academics, and community organizations in its mangrove planting initiatives.
As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah worked together with Pokdakan Tuah Bersatu, students, Bhabinsa (village military officers), Bhabinkamtibmas (community police officers), and the Village Government to carry out the planting activity.
"Mangrove planting is crucial for protecting the coastal ecosystem, especially during certain seasons when erosion is a major concern. PT Timah successfully planted mangroves here in 2023, and now they are planting another 3,000 trees. These mangroves will help protect the coastline, especially during the West Monsoon season, when tides are high," Amran explained.
Beyond coastal protection, mangroves also offer economic benefits to local fishermen, as they serve as natural habitats for fish and crabs, supporting local fisheries.
"We also involved students in this activity as part of environmental education. We hope that these mangrove trees will flourish and provide lasting benefits for the community," he added.
Amran also commended PT Timah for its continuous community engagement, which extends beyond environmental initiatives.
"PT Timah has consistently supported our village, not only through mangrove planting but also through CSR programs like fish farming, hydroponic agriculture, and social assistance," he stated.
