Managing Waste with Economic Value and Environmental Conservation, PT Timah Supports Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank

BANGKA BARAT -- PT Timah Tbk is committed to supporting environmental conservation through various sustainable environmental management programs in collaboration with community groups.

This time, PT Timah has extended its support and mentorship to the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank in Tanjung Sub-district, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency. This initiative aims to educate and empower the community in eco-friendly and economically valuable waste management.

The waste bank’s inauguration took place alongside a public waste management awareness event held at the former Tanjung Sub-district Office building on Wednesday (11/6/2025).

On this occasion, PT Timah also donated operational equipment for the waste bank, including scales and cleaning tools.

The event was attended by Acting Mentok Sub-district Head Rini Indra Sari, PT Timah’s Department Head of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Risal Barung Mangotan, Head of Waste Management and Sanitation of the West Bangka Environmental Agency (DLH) Ferry Ardami, Tanjung Sub-district Head Sayid Alwi, Waste Bank Chairperson Bahara, and local residents.

Bahara, Chairperson of the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank, stated that the waste bank is expected to provide a solution to the waste problem in the densely populated Tanjung area.

“Hopefully, the establishment of the Waste Bank in Tanjung will help address the area’s waste issues. We uphold the motto: Healthy, Clean, and Economically Empowering in waste management. We hope this initiative brings a positive impact,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation to PT Timah for the full support that allowed the waste bank to be established and start operating.

“We would like to thank PT Timah for their support and guidance in establishing the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank,” said Bahara.

Meanwhile, Acting Mentok Sub-district Head Rini Indra Sari praised the collaboration between PT Timah and the local community in initiating a sustainable waste management solution.

She emphasized that waste is a shared problem requiring efforts from all parties. The presence of the waste bank is expected to be a concrete solution for maintaining environmental cleanliness and comfort.

“Hopefully, the establishment of this Waste Bank will serve as a real solution to our waste issues. Thank you to PT Timah for guiding Tanjung residents in managing waste. May PT Timah continue to thrive and operate smoothly,” she said.

In agreement, Ferry Ardami, Head of Waste Management and Sanitation at the West Bangka Environmental Agency, noted that this program aligns with the national policy on waste management.

“Waste banks are programs encouraged by the Ministry of Environment as a concrete solution to the waste issue. What PT Timah and the Tanjung community have done is a positive step toward environmental conservation. We hope this program continues sustainably,” he said.

Through its support of the waste bank, PT Timah proves its role not only as a mining company but also as a development partner actively contributing to creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
