KUNDUR -- As part of its commitment to environmental preservation, PT Timah Tbk, through its Kundur Area Division, held a seminar on Efficient, Environmentally Friendly, and Sustainable Waste Management at the Wisma Timah Kundur Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday (July 16, 2025).
The event, initiated by the HSE Department of PT Timah Kundur Area, featured speakers from the Karimun Regency Environmental Agency, aiming to promote better waste management practices.
This seminar is part of a series of environmental education activities previously conducted, including training on hazardous and non-hazardous waste (B3) management and household waste handling. The program is a tangible step by the company toward creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable work and living environment.
A representative from the Karimun Regency Environmental Agency, Syafrianto, emphasized that waste management is not solely the responsibility of the government, but a shared responsibility among all parties.
"Properly managed waste can provide many benefits, such as being turned into compost or recycled into useful items. There are already many success stories; what we need now is the will to act," he explained.
He also expressed appreciation for PT Timah’s proactive role in educating both employees and the surrounding community on proper waste management. According to him, collaboration between companies, communities, and the government will create long-term positive impacts for the environment.
Meanwhile, PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that PT Timah consistently implements waste management education programs both internally and for the wider community.
"PT Timah is committed to sustainable environmental management, and one focus is waste handling. Through education like this, we hope waste can be managed more efficiently," he said.
The seminar was attended by employee representatives from various departments, neighborhood representatives from Kundur, and members of IIKT Kundur. In addition to presentations, a Q&A session was held to ensure participants fully understood the correct methods and benefits of proper waste management. (*)
