Maintaining the Population of Sambar Deer, PT Timah Tbk Again Brings Ten Deer to the Batu Besi Farm in East Belitung

EAST BELITUNG - PT Timah Tbk continues to be committed to helping preserve the Sambar Deer population on Belitung Island.

Because, this time the breeding at the Batu Besi Big Mine, Damar District, saw the arrival of ten breeding sambar deer again, Saturday (11/11/2023)

Previously, at the beginning of March 2022, PT Timah Tbk together with the South Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) moved the broodstock Sambar Deer to a breeding location at the Batu Besi Big Mine, Damar District, East Belitung Regency. To date, there are 14 sambar deer and they are in healthy condition.

As is known, the Sambar Deer (Unicolor Deer) is a protected animal. Sambar deer have a distinctive characteristic, namely that their bodies are larger than other types of deer. The fur color is brown and some are gray or brown and red.

Head of Exitu Conservation Resort Region XVIII Belitung Junaidi said the role of PT Timah Tbk was extraordinary in helping maintain the sambar deer population in Belitung.

It has been proven that the deer broodstock that was imported in March 2022 is in healthy condition and is breeding well.

"The role of PT Timah Tbk in maintaining and breeding protected animals, namely sambar deer, in captivity is extraordinary," said Junaidi.

According to Junaidi, for the past two years, the conditions of the deer breeding area and the deer have been in quite good condition.

Because the conditions in captivity are by the true nature of sambar deer.

"This is extraordinary, PT Timah Tbk's commitment to promoting protected wild animals," he explained.

Then Junaidi suggested that in future handling the new deer should be separated from the existing deer calves, making it easier for them to reproduce.

"The arrival of these ten individuals means that there are a total of 24 individuals and breeding is still very sufficient and very adequate," he said.

Meanwhile, PT Timah Tbk PT Timah Tbk Iron Primary Mine Deer Breeding Worker Ruslan is grateful that all the deer in captivity are in good and healthy condition.

In fact, in 2023 there will be five additional deer calves born, bringing the total to 14. Then ten more broodstock were added.

"We will always do our best to treat this sambar deer," he said.

Ruslan appreciates that PT Timah Tbk has succeeded in breeding the Sambar Deer, so he hopes that PT Timah Tbk will continue to maintain its commitment to preserving this protected animal.

"We see that PT Timah Tbk is quite good and quite successful in developing the sambar deer population," he said.
