Maintaining Coastal Ecosystems and Realizing Net Zero Emission, PT Timah Tbk Consistently Plants Mangroves in Operational Areas

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk consistently carries out mangrove planting in the company's operational areas to support the realization of the carbon neutral or net zero emission target by 2060.

PT Timah Tbk's commitment to supporting the realization of NZE and implementing the energy transition was also appreciated by the National Energy Council, where PT Timah Tbk won an award at the 2023 National Energy Council Award in the category of commitment to utilizing Clean Energy.

Mangrove planting carried out by PT Timah Tbk was carried out in Bangka Belitung Province and Riau Islands Province. Efforts to plant mangroves have been underway for a long time. In fact, since 2010 PT Timah Tbk has been planting mangroves together with the Ikebana Foundation on Bangka Island.

On Kundur Island, PT Timah Tbk also has a Mangrove Nursery in the Kundur Production Unit which is one of the providers of mangrove seeds in the mangrove planting activities carried out by the company.

PT Timah Tbk planted 44,050 mangrove trees in mid-2016-2022 which were carried out in the company's operational areas. In 2023, members of the MIND ID Mining Industry holding will also plant thousands of mangroves.

PT Timah Tbk also carries out mangrove rehabilitation with community groups, youth, academics, and fishermen groups. This is an effort to prevent abrasion and protect coastal ecosystems.

Apart from planting mangroves, PT Timah Tbk is also carrying out several concrete actions to support the upcoming NZE 2060 program, such as using renewable energy to support operational activities.

Apart from that, PT Timah Tbk is also trying to increase the intensity and percentage of carbon stock from planting ex-mining land with plant species with high levels of C02 uptake, endemic and fast-growing plants and increasing the intensity and percentage of carbon stock from watershed rehabilitation planting.

Syafriadi said that mangrove planting activities carried out with the community provided benefits for the environment.
