BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk has provided assistance to Baharudin (12), the son of a fisherman who is currently undergoing hospital treatment after a sea accident he experienced with his father, Hasanudin (45), last week. His father tragically passed away due to the incident.
The accident occurred while Baharudin and his father were at sea in the waters of Karang Langkore, Sungailiat, Bangka, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, on Saturday (December 6, 2025). Bahar’s father was struck by lightning, and Bahar suffered burns that required intensive medical care at the hospital.
The assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk was directly handed over by the Department Head of TJSL PT TIMAH Tbk, Risal Barung Mangontan, to Winda (37), Baharudin’s mother, witnessed by the Chairman of the Bangka Regency HNSI Branch, Slamet Riyadi, on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).
The support is expected to help ease the family’s burden, especially with the medical needs of Bahar, who suffered burns from the accident.
Winda shared that Bahar, her second child, had just completed surgery following the tragedy that took the life of her husband and injured her son. Bahar is still receiving hospital care.
“The surgery is done, and he is now in recovery. He often went to sea with his father to help him. Usually, they would be gone for about a week. Now his father is gone, and I still can’t believe this happened to our family,” Winda said with her head lowered.
Winda explained that Bahar suffered burns while trying to help his father, who had been struck by lightning. Their boat capsized, and the engines caught fire.
“Bahar was injured because he tried to save his father. He was the one who called other fishermen for help. Earlier that day, they told us they would be coming home, but then this tragedy happened,” she said.
She expressed her gratitude to PT TIMAH Tbk for providing assistance to support her son’s recovery. For her, the help means a great deal. Winda now must raise her five young children on her own.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you so much for this assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk. It means a lot to us in helping with Bahar’s medical expenses after he is discharged from the hospital. May PT TIMAH Tbk continue to succeed,” said the resident of Parit Pekir, Sungailiat, Bangka.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Bangka Regency HNSI, Slamet Riyadi, stated that Bahar had long helped his father at sea. He expressed gratitude that PT TIMAH Tbk responded quickly and provided medical support for Bahar.
“This child has always helped his father at sea, because a fishing boat like theirs cannot be operated alone. Alhamdulillah, today PT TIMAH Tbk responded quickly and provided assistance for Bahar’s treatment. It is very helpful for the family,” he said.
Going forward, he hopes PT TIMAH Tbk will continue to work with HNSI to support fishermen, both by improving their welfare and helping those affected by accidents or disasters.
