Learning the History of Tin and Mentok City, Indonesian Tin Museum Mentok Frequently Visited by Students

WEST BANGKA — The Indonesian Tin Museum (MTI) in Mentok is bustling with student visitors eager to learn about the history of Indonesian tin. Located in West Bangka Regency, the museum also serves as an educational facility.

The Indonesian Tin Museum Mentok building, a cultural heritage site established in 1915, is a unique attraction for visitors to MTI Mentok.

The museum often welcomes students, ranging from early childhood education to university level. In addition, MTI Mentok is one of the tourist attractions in West Bangka Regency.

For instance, today, students from Stannia Kindergarten visited the Indonesian Tin Museum Mentok, accompanied by their teachers and parents, to explore the museum’s collection on Wednesday (October 2, 2024).

Stannia Kindergarten Principal Suparningsih said the visit aimed to introduce students to the history of Mentok City and the history of tin.

“By introducing historical artifacts at the museum, guided and explained by museum staff, we hope the children will learn firsthand about the history of Mentok City and the history of tin,” she explained.

She noted that not only the students but also the parents were enthusiastic about the visit, as they could see various historical objects.

Meanwhile, Khusnul Khotimah, a parent, shared that the visit to the Indonesian Tin Museum Mentok allowed them to learn about the history of tin.

“The museum visit is excellent because both children and parents can learn about in together,” said Khaira's mother.

Khaira, a student from Stannia Kindergarten, expressed her excitement about visiting the Indonesian Tin Museum, as she was able to see new things.

“It’s so fun to visit the museum with friends, teachers, and my mom. There’s a lot to see, like statues, tin, paintings, and many other things,” Khaira said. (*)
