Lancang Kundur Jaya Joint Business Group Turns to Receive Fishing Equipment Assistance from PT Timah Tbk

KUNDUR – PT Timah continues to be committed to assisting fishermen in increasing their catches. For this reason, PT Timah continues to distribute aid for fishing gear to fishing groups. This time, it was the turn of the Joint Business Group (JBG) of Lancang Kundur Jaya, Kundur Village, Kundur District, which received assistance from PT Timah Tbk, Wednesday (3/11/2021).

The aid for fishing gear in the form of nets and equipment for fishing will be distributed to nine members of the Lancang Kundur Jaya Joint Business Group. With this new fishing gear, it is hoped that it will increase the catch of fishermen so that it will have an impact on the fishermen's economy.

The head of the Joint Business Group Lancang Kundur Herman said that currently, the fishing gear owned by the group members was inadequate, causing their catches to not be optimal. Moreover, it is now entering the north wind season which causes fishermen to be unable to go to sea.

"So far, my members and I have only used simple and makeshift fishing gear, you could say it's still traditional, for the net results have not been maximized with the limitations of much-damaged fishing gear. Even though we have spread our nets far, sometimes we are also faced with high waves and bad weather. unfriendly," he said.

He hopes that with the help of fishing gear in the form of nets and other equipment members of the Joint Business Group can get even better results.

Herman is endlessly grateful because their Joint Business Group has received assistance with fishing gear from PT Timah Tbk, which their members really hope for.

"Thanks to PT Timah for the assistance provided, hopefully, our catch will be maximized. Hopefully, PT Timah can continue to operate so that contributions to small fishermen like us can continue and the presence of PT Timah on Kundur Island has a very positive impact on the community, especially fishermen," he said.

The handover was also attended by Eka Budhy Susanto as Coordinator of the Riau and Riau Islands Community Empowerment Program, Djuriza Community Empowerment Program staff, Naim Saleh from Waskip, Head of the Joint Business Group Lancang Kundur Herman, and members. (**)
