PANGKALPINANG -- Preserving customs and cultural traditions is an important part of maintaining community identity amid increasingly dynamic social and economic development.
Recognizing the importance of safeguarding local cultural heritage so that it remains alive and can be passed down through generations, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting various cultural and traditional preservation initiatives across its operational areas.
Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) program, PT TIMAH consistently plays an active role in supporting cultural traditions, community arts, and local cultural activities as part of its efforts to preserve local wisdom and values.
One of the company's latest initiatives was the provision of rebana musical instruments to the AS-Saaddah Rebana Group in Lalang Village, Manggar District, East Belitung Regency. The assistance was provided to support the continuity of the group's activities, as it has long been actively involved in various social and religious events within the community.
The head of the AS-Saaddah Rebana Group, Yulizana, said the assistance would greatly help the group resume regular practice sessions and performances at community events.
"The instruments we previously had were already damaged, yet we continue to practice regularly and often perform at social and religious events. This support is extremely helpful for us," she said.
According to Yulizana, the company's support not only provides much-needed facilities but also motivates members to continue preserving rebana music as an integral part of the community's cultural heritage.
"We are very grateful for this support. We hope the company continues to grow and provide benefits to the community," she added.
PT TIMAH's commitment to cultural preservation is also reflected in its support for various traditional customs and cultural events throughout its operational regions.
In Bangka Regency, PT TIMAH collaborated with the Mapur Indigenous Community to develop Kampung Adat Gebong Memarong in Air Abik, Gunung Muda Village, which has grown into an educational cultural and historical tourism destination. The company also supports the Nuju Jerami tradition, which continues to be preserved by the local community.
Meanwhile, in West Bangka Regency, the company consistently supports traditional cultural events such as the Ruwah Festival and the Perang Ketupat Festival in Tempilang, as well as the annual Rebo Pusaka Ritual of Setana Jering Amantubillah in Pelangas Village.
The leader of Setana Jering Amantubillah, Dr. Sardi, said that PT TIMAH's support for cultural preservation has been consistently provided year after year.
"Alhamdulillah, the assistance from PT TIMAH has been very helpful in carrying out our traditional rituals. This support is a tangible demonstration of the company's commitment to preserving the customs and traditions of our community," he said.
Beyond the Bangka Belitung Islands, PT TIMAH also supports cultural preservation efforts in Karimun Regency through its support for the Festival Lampu Colok, a traditional event held annually during Ramadan.
The Chairman of the Mukalimus Youth Association in Sawang Village, Azyar, said the company's support has helped sustain a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation.
"We are very grateful because this assistance helps preserve our community's traditions. PT TIMAH has consistently supported this event," he said. (*)
