WEST BANGKA – PT Timah Tbk along with biological conservation, is consistent to protect wild animals and protected animal’s sustainability. This was proven by PT Timah Tbk’s commitment by being the main sponsor at Alobi’s Animal Rescue Center (Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa (PPS)), at Air Jangkang Reclamation Village, an animal rehabilitation spot.
Together with Alabi Foundation, Southern Sumatra’s Natural Resource Conservation Center (BKSDA), and PT Timah Tbk, working to rehabilitate protected animals which going to be released to their natural wild habitat.
Not just rehabilitation, PT Timah Tbk also plays an active role in releasing the animal to the wilderness, as done at Menumbing Forest Area, West Bangka, Muntok on Saturday (4/9/2021).
Released animals were 2 Asian Palm Civets (Musang Pandan) and 2 Changeable Hawk-eagle (Elang Bronok). These animals were rehabilitated at Alobi’s PPS at Air Jangkang Reclamation Village before they were released into the wilderness.
The Release to Wilderness activity in West Bangka was attended by Rasio Ridho Sani, The General Director of Law Enforcement (GAKKUM) of Ministry of Forestry Environment, Muhammad Soleh, Regional Secretary (Sekta) of West Bangka, Alwin Akbar, PT Timah Tbk’s Director of Business Development and Forkompinda.
“This Release to the Wilderness is in line with Ministry of LHK’s program. Through South Sumatera’s BKSDA, KLHK often does this event with PPS Alobi collaborated with PT Timah Tbk. The most recent release coincided with Indonesia’s 76th National Independence Day last August,” said PT Timah Tbk’s Director of Business Development on the release event in Menumbing Forest Area, on Saturday (4/9/2021).
He hopes through South Sumatera’s BKSDA, KLHK could keep going nicely, so Bangka Belitung’s endemic animals can be protected well.
Alwin stated since 2018 Alobi Foundation with PT Timah has rehabilitated hundreds of animals at PPS Alobi which is located at Air Jangkang Reclamation Village.
Rasio Ridho Sani, The General Director of Law Enforcement (GAKKUM) of the Ministry of Forestry Environment stated, animals must be preserved for the sake of the ecosystem's continuity. “This eagle has an important role in keeping our ecosystem. It is the top predator. So, if eagles disappeared it can cause lots of pests (become unsustainable),” he said.
He mentioned, to run effectively animal conservations need to be done by all parties involved.
PPS Alobi’s Manager, Endy Yusuf exclaimed, today’s released animals are translocated from Alur Tegal’s PPS and were a handover from the community. These animals had been checked by the veterinarian(s) before they are safe to be declared that they are safe to be released.
He stated PT Timah Tbk has become the main sponsor in PPS Alobi’s animal rehabilitation process at Air Jangkang.
“In rehabilitating the animals, PT Timah Tbk collaborated and synergized with Alobi and Southern Sumatra’s BKSDA, where PT Timah became the main sponsor in this rehabilitation at Air Jangkang’s PPS,” said Endy.
Endy mengajak masyarakat untuk menjaga dan melestarikan satwa yang dilindungi dengan tidak melakukan perburuan liar.
Endy encourages the public to not wildly hunting protected and conserved animals. (**)
