EAST BELITUNG - The number of Sambar deer at PT Timah Tbk's Large Primary Iron Stone Mining breeding site, Damar District, East Belitung Regency has increased by two in one year.
This is because in April 2022 the mother deer gave birth to a calf and this February 2023 another calf was born.
Deer Breeding Worker, Rudianto said, this time the second deer was born on Monday (20/02/2023) in a safe condition.
"Yesterday afternoon at 14:00 WIB this baby deer was born and is in good health," said Rudianto.
According to Rudianto, the condition of the baby deer born in April 2022 is in good health and continues to grow in weight.
Then, it is estimated that in the near future, the fawn will be reborn, because one of the parents is pregnant.
"It is estimated that in two weeks the fawn will be born again," he said.
Rudianto explained that so far the maintenance of deer in captivity has not had any significant problems and has been running smoothly.
"Everyone is in good health and the presence of the deer has an impact on educating the visiting community," he stated.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Belitung XVIII Region Ex-Situ Conservation Resort, Junaidi said the captive Sambar deer at PT Timah Tbk's Iron Stone Primary Mine breeding site was extraordinary. Because when they first came they weren't too fat, but now they are fat and someone is giving birth.
"In plain view, the condition of the animals is getting fatter and getting better," he said.
Therefore, he appreciates PT Timah Tbk's steps in protecting the sambar deer population.
