BANGKA BARAT – Jaya Mandiri Fishermen Group together with PT Timah Tbk planted 1000 mangrove trees on Sungai Baru Beach, Muntok, West Bangka Regency, Friday (8/10/2021). Mangrove planting is an effort to maintain the area on the coast.
PT Timah Tbk handed over the assistance of 1000 mangrove stems as well as mangrove maintenance costs. This is an effort by the company to support fishing groups to guard the coastal area.
The chairman of the Fishermen's group Jaya Mandiri Kasdi said his party took the initiative to plant mangroves to reorganize the beach as before. He said many of the mangroves planted were dead. "We wanted to reimagine this beach, considering that some of these mangrove trees are dead, so we planted again. Mangroves have an important role to prevent the occurrence of coastal abrasion," he said.
His party appreciates PT Timah Tbk which has provided mangrove seeds and their maintenance costs. So that later, it is expected that this area will return beautifully. "On behalf of fishermen Jaya Mandiri expresses his gratitude to PT Timah for his concern with the environment and us as fishermen," Kasdi explained.
Meanwhile, fisheries extension at the Marine and Fisheries Service Ayu Permatasi said that mangrove planting is very beneficial both to the environment, marine life in coastal areas and fishermen. "Thank you very much to PT Timah who has helped this activity, mangrove has many benefits such as breaking currents, waves, especially now the rainy season, rising tides, causing mud to rise. This mangrove absorbs mud at the bottom of the beach, so it is very useful," he concluded.
The delivery of mangrove seed assistance was handed over to the CSR Team of PT Timah Tbk to the chairman of the Kasdi fishing group and members, witnessed by fisheries extension officer Ayu Permatasari Marine Fisheries Marine Service. (**)
