KUNDUR -- As part of its commitment to supporting the development of marine tourism potential and preserving the marine ecosystem in Karimun Regency, PT Timah supported a fishing competition organized by the Pongkar Village Youth Organization.
The fishing competition, held at Ketam Beach, Pongkar Village, Tebing District, Karimun Regency, was warmly welcomed by fishermen and the community on September 7.
The event, which was held in commemoration of the 80th Independence Day of Indonesia, was joined by 414 participants consisting of both fishermen and the general public from various areas, making it not only a gathering event but also a promotion of Ketam Beach’s tourism potential.
Chairman of Pongkar Village Youth Organization, Tebing District, Deni Haryadi, said the competition was met with great enthusiasm, as proven by the hundreds of participants who took part.
“We held this fishing competition with the support of PT Timah as an effort to invite everyone to protect the marine ecosystem while also introducing Batu Ketam Beach tourism so it can become more widely known. At the same time, this serves as a moment of togetherness,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s support in making the event a success and hoped this synergy and collaboration would continue so that the fishing competition could become an annual event.
“Thank you to PT Timah for supporting this activity. Hopefully, this can be held regularly every year considering the high enthusiasm of the participants,” he said.
According to him, this was not the first time PT Timah supported environmental conservation activities in their area, including mangrove planting.
“The mangrove planting along the coast has already brought benefits to fishermen. Besides protecting the ecosystem, it has also had a positive impact on improving fishermen’s catches,” he added.
